SENG Parent Model Group Interest List

Plans are underway for a offering a SENG Parent Model Group in the fall of 2017.
Based on the SENG Model, a SENG Model Parent Group consists of 15-20 interested parents who read a chapter from A Parent’s Guide to Raising Gifted Children by SENG founder, Jim Webb, and meet every week for 90 minutes to discuss the recommended strategies from the book and share parenting tips with each other.

Group discussion is guided by two trained SENG Model Parent Group Facilitators. Facilitators do not provide therapy, but instead focus on establishing a supportive, nonjudgmental atmosphere that promotes learning and encouraging participation from the group.

Example Weekly Discussion Topics
Week 1 Characteristics and Traits of Giftedness
Week 2 Communication and Emotional Intelligence
Week 3 Motivation and Underachievement
Week 4 Discipline and Self-Management
Week 5 Stress and Depression
Week 6 Acquaintances, Peers, and Bullying
Week 7 Family Relationships and Sibling Rivalry
Week 8 Choosing Your Family Traditions and Next Steps

As a participant, you will:

- Identify the special emotional needs of gifted children and their families.
- Develop a list of parenting strategies to support your family's emotional needs.
- Learn how to be a better advocate for your gifted family.
- Connect and learn from experienced parents just like you!

Who should attend?

SENG Parent Model Interest List
Any parents with gifted, or potentially gifted, children are welcome to attend. It is best if two adults involved in the child's life come each week. This can include aunts, uncles, grandparents. Support comes in all numbers, so please feel welcome if only one family member can attend.

Individuals on the interest list will be:

  • notified when and where the SENG Model Parent group will meet
  • provided details on cost, how to register and where to send payment

The group will be limited to 15-20 participants. If there are more interested people than space allows, registrants will be added to a waitlist for future groups. If we have fewer than six families register, we will have to cancel because of the difficulty of maintaining momentum in discussions with such a small group. If cancellation happens, your cost will be refunded.
